The noble cause of Commecs Educational Trust (CET) finds its root back in 1972 when (Late) Mr. Irfan Nadeem, Mr. Omar H. Karim, (Late) Mr. Arif Habib Teli and (Late) Mr. M. Arif Dossal laid the foundation of the Commecs Old Students’ Association (COSA), the alumni Association of Govt. College of Commerce and Economics, Karachi. CET was established in 1988, as a not-for-profit organization for the promotion of quality education. CET is certified by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) in the areas of Financial Management, Legal and Regulatory Compliance, Policies, Compliance with Tax Laws, Program Delivery, Institutional Mechanism of Oversight and General Public Utility Compliance.
To promote academic excellence by providing seekers of knowledge roots to keep them well-grounded and wings to enable them to achieve their highest aspirations. The long- term objective is to develop upright and competent citizens who will help ensure the bright future of the country.
“To promote excellence in education for seekers of knowledge by giving them two bequests – the first is Roots, the second is Wings”.
The CET team consists of 12 trustees from the alumni of the Govt. College of Commerce and Economics and Commecs College who joined hands with an aim to pay back to the society in the field of Education. The Trustees are from different walks of life – Chartered Accountants, Bankers, Traders, Economists, Industrialists etc. and each holds a prominent position in his/her professional field in society.
Responsibility for the management of all institutions established by Commecs Educational Trust, is vested in the Managing Committee of the respective institution, that has representation from among the trustees of CET, the members of COSA, and the institution’s heads.
Commecs College was founded in 1993 by Commecs Educational Trust (CET), a not-for-profit organization, formed by COMMECS (the alumni association of Government College of Commerce & Economics) in 1988. The trustees were concerned at the dearth of good educational institutions in the fields of business, science and technology. As its first step, CET established the Commecs Institute of Business Education (CIBE) in 1993 (Now known as “Commecs College”). Three programmes were offered:
The educational standards were set to conform to the vision of the founders. Encouraged and motivated by the initial success, CET launched the science discipline in the year 2003 and changed the name of the institute to Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences (CIBES).
In May 2007, CIBES received a charter from Government of Sindh and recognition from Higher Education Commission (HEC) as a Degree Awarding Institute and started its own BBA and MBA degree programmes, at 40-B PECHS. With this status IBA-affiliated programmes were discontinued.
Commecs College at present is running an Intermediate Programme in affiliation with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), offering the disciplines of:
